Moving Day

You find a route through no matter what,

a bleed of navigation,

resolute,

polarizing if need be,

swollen rolled ankles & the tang of prednisone from your childhood,

that metallic aftertaste,

not unlike black coffee erupting in your esophagus

after throwing it back on a too desperate morning,

the sunlight prevailing against the long early shadows into

the new & old one-bedroom apartment

with the duct tape on the bunchy blue carpet

while crickets pause from last night’s madness,

caddis flies embrace the smashed & desiccated prairie dog

on the bleached savannah just off South Main,

and you,

a motorcycle of disrepair,

heart falling from out of your thinning scalp,

humming Mumford & Sons out of tune,

eating disinfected Bugles in the ladies’ room for the protein,

no passport required,

no magic medicine to be dispensed by Bob The Cowboy,

your primary purpose,

altruism,

long overdue,

now imminent,

clouds forming,

the weather a little cooler,

hats off,

loosen your belt,

fall on the couch,

you’re home buddy.
